Revista Caatinga Celebrates 50 Years and Editor-in-Chief Pays Tribute to Pioneers

29-06-2026

Reaching the 50th anniversary of the Revista Caatinga is, above all, a moment of gratitude. Gratitude to those who, in 1976, had the vision to create this journal at a school that was still taking its first steps. And here I must pay special tribute to Professor Odaci Fernandes de Oliveira, our first Editor-in-Chief, who led the journal for 27 years and is sadly no longer with us, but whose legacy remains alive in every published edition.

Throughout these five decades, the Revista Caatinga has been led by editors-in-chief who dedicated their talent and effort to maintaining the journal's excellence: Odaci Fernandes de Oliveira (1976–2003), Gustavo Pereira Duda (2004–2006), Patrício Borges Maracajá (2007), Salvador Barros Torres (2008–2012), Elizangela Cabral dos Santos (2013), and since 2014, Professor Aurélio Paes Barros Júnior, who currently leads the journal.

Today, as Editor-in-Chief, I take on this legacy with immense responsibility. Seeing the Revista Caatinga achieve Qualis A3, surpass an impact factor of 1.1, and be indexed in more than ten scientific databases is proof that the knowledge produced in the Brazilian Semi-Arid region has national and international relevance.

We remain firmly committed to maintaining free access, academic excellence, and the mission of publishing research that truly makes a difference for agriculture, sustainability, and the rational use of our natural resources.

Here's to the next 50 years!
