The use of pre-emergence herbicides in soybean has increased in recent years, mainly to control weed species that are tolerant or resistant to glyphosate. This study aimed to evaluate the phytotoxicity and weed control provided by pre-emergence herbicides applied alone or in combination with glufosinate-ammonium. Field experiments were conducted using a randomized block design with four replications. Treatments included weed-free and weedy controls, the pre-emergence herbicides pyrazosulfuron-ethyl+flumioxazin, diuron+sulfentrazone, imazethapyr+flumioxazin, sulfentrazone+imazethapyr, and S-metolachlor+fomesafen; and the same herbicides combined with glufosinate-ammonium. Herbicide phytotoxicity and control of Euphorbia heterophylla, Raphanus raphanistrum, and Urochloa plantaginea were assessed from 7 to 42 days after treatment (DAT). At 21 DAT, soybean physiological variables were measured, and at harvest, yield components were determined. All herbicide treatments were selective for the soybean cultivar Brasmax Vênus CE, as the initial phytotoxicity symptoms disappeared during crop development and did not reduce grain yield. Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl+flumioxazin, diuron+sulfentrazone, imazethapyr+flumioxazin, sulfentrazone+imazethapyr, and S-metolachlor+fomesafen, applied alone or in combination with post-emergence glufosinate-ammonium, improved weed control. Although diuron+sulfentrazone and S-metolachlor+fomesafen combined with glufosinate-ammonium negatively affected some soybean physiological traits, these effects did not compromise grain yield. Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl+flumioxazin, imazethapyr+flumioxazin, sulfentrazone+imazethapyr, pyrazosulfuron-ethyl+flumioxazin+glu-fosinate-ammonium, diuron+sulfentrazone+glufosinate-ammonium, sulfentrazone+imazethapyr+glufosinate-ammonium, and S-metolachlor+fomesafen+glufosinate-ammonium resulted in the best soybean yield components, with grain yields exceeding that of the weed-free control. The absence of weed control resulted in grain yield losses greater than 90%.
