Resumo

Corn is one of the most important grasses cultivated worldwide and has broad economic relevance, serving as a staple food, animal feed, and industrial raw material. Although corn is classified as moderately sensitive to salinity, information on the tolerance of landraces to this stress is still scarce. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of seven landraces under salinity stress. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the Department of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid Region (UFERSA), in Mossoró, in 2025. Eight landrace corn varieties were cultivated: Santana do Mato, Grão do Sertão, Peba, Sol da Manhã, Índio, Jaboatão, Pontinha and Logradouro, subjected to two levels of irrigation water salinity 0.5 dS m-1 (control) and 5.5 dS m-1, in DBC in an 8x2 factorial scheme, with five replicates. The variables analyzed were plant height (HP), stem diameter (SD), leaf dry mass (LDM), and root dry mass (RDM). The data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), F-test, and, in significant cases, the Scott-Knott cluster test for varieties and Student's t-test for salinity levels, both at a 5% probability level, were applied. The statistical software used was SISVAR®. Salt stress did not affect growth in height, stem diameter, or leaf or stem dry mass. Among the varieties, V1, V2, V3, and V5 stood out for presenting the highest leaf dry mass values.
