Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of the topic treatment of the commercial cream in cutaneous wounds in cats submitted to ovarysalpingohisterectomy through clinic, histological and bacteriological analyses. Thirty six unknown breed cats were divided into three groups: test group (Triticum vulgare), reference group (Helianthus annus) and control group (distilled water). Clinical, morphometric, histological and bacteriological evaluations of the wounds were performed in the 3rd, 7th and 14th days after surgery. In the test group, there was acceleration on the evolution of the healing process, as the wounds presented an increase in the contraction percentage per area, complete reepithelialization, a relevant improvement (P<0.05) in the number of fibroblasts and collagen fibers in relation to the reference and control groups on the 14th day after surgery. It was noticed the presence of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus sp in the wound samples of all three groups. However, clinical evidences of infections happened only in two animals in the reference group. Keywords: Wound healing, female cats, Triticum vulgare
