Influence of the stage of lactation on the composition of milk of water buffalo

Abstract

The objective of this research was evaluating the influence of stage of lactation on the somatic cell count (CCS) and the levels of fat, protein and total solids (ST) in milk of Murrah buffaloes in the “Agreste” region of “Rio Grande do Norte” state. It was used 519 records from 119 lactating Murrah breed water buffalo from milk recording data sheets of commercial farm. Analyses were performed in milk during the lactation animals, by analyzing the following variables: somatic cell count (SCC), fat, protein and ST. The buffalo milk yield richer in total solids in the final third of lactation. Keywords: Dairy production, somatic cell count, total solids.
