Abstract

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the apparent metabolizable energy of different hays of northeast semiarid to Isa Label poultry line. Sixty young chickens were allocated in metallic adapted cages, distributed in a completely randomized design with five treatments and twelve repetitions. The treatments were consisted of a control ration (corn, soybean, vitamins and minerals) and the others treatments were elaborated by the substitution of 20% of this ration (kg/kg) with Calotropis procera hay, Leucaena leucocephala hay, Manihot esculenta hay and Senna obtusifolia hay according to conventional methodology for the energy evaluation of food to poultry. The L. leucocephala hay obtained the highest value of metabolizable energy (2233.69 cal/g), the S. obtusifolia hay (1882.70 cal/g) and M. esculenta hay (1812.11 cal/g) showed intermediary and next values, while C. procera hay propitied the lowest value of metabolizable energy to the chickens (809.10 cal/g). Therefore, within quantitative limits, the appropriate combination of L. leucaena, S. obtusifolia and M. esculenta hays in rations to folk avian system production can be usefull.
