Abstract

Brucelosis caused by Brucella abortus attacks many animal species, including man. The transmission between the bovines occurs through oral and genital routes. Man can be infected by ingestion of milk, milk derivatives and by contact with sick animals or rests of abortion. The diagnostic was made with the Rose Bengal Plate Agglutination Test (RBPAT). The animal production losses with this illness can have great importance mainly due to the decline of the milk production in the cows that abort. It was collected 192 samples of serum of bovine females in lactation distributed in 38 properties in the city of Cajazeiras, PB, Brazil, in July of 2004. From the total samples collected and examined, no animals reacted positively.
