Abstract

The horse farms are among the greatest positive aspects of the national livestock, and due to the influence of the rodeo, this activity has turned more important in the Northeast region of the Brazil. However, the equine with gastrointestinal nematodes can easily weaken and to be unable to do physical exercises, therefore researches that test the conventional anthelmintics action are necessary. The aim of this present study was to do a comparison between the action of the anthelmintic abamectin composed gel in relation to the ricobendazole, orally administered, in equine of rodeo in Mossoró city, Rio Grande do Norte state. Eight horses were divided in two groups, each one with four animals: group I treated with ricobendazole and group II treated with abamectin composed gel, they were selected through the result of the number of eggs per gram of feces (OPG) equal or over to 200 eggs, and observed for forty days. The feces were collected directly from the rectum of the animals and processed at the Animal Parasitology laboratory-UFERSA. All the studied animals presented positivity for Strongylus sp., and the abamectin composed gel presented significant reduction in the count of eggs in average of 362,5 OPG at day 0 to 12,5 at day 40.With the ricobendazole treatment it was observed low decrease in the average of the OPG of 437,5 at day 0 to 250 at day 40, however it didn't present significant result. Thus, abamectin composed gel presented better anthelmintic action in relation to ricobendazole.
