Abstract

The work addresses issues of socio-biodiversity conservation in Brazil and the need to analyze the system of protected areas, due to the peculiarities of the territory. We start from a decolonial perspective, with a mostly Latin American theoretical framework. The general objective of the research is to discuss the means for an environmental decoloniality in the conservation of socio-biodiversity in Brazil. The specific objectives are the discussion about the conservation of biodiversity in Brazil and its current model; the approach to the history of territorial exclusion and the ideal of a colonial paradise. A bibliographical and documentary research was carried out, with an exploratory character. The research points to the need to reformulate the National System of Conservation Units regarding to the category of protectionism, to adapt to the Brazilian reality and ensure the socio-cultural rights of indigenous, traditional and quilombola peoples and communities, since the maintenance of supposedly untouched areas is at odds with the socio-territorial reality of the country and corresponds to a North American and European category of biodiversity conservation.
