Understanding the codifications of the 19th century and early 20th century not only as a technical compilation of rules, but as an undertaking for the scientific organization of Law (or a specific sector of Law), with systematic and historical pretensions, the study of legal literature that was being published and circulating around pivotal moments of codification can be an interesting tool for Legal History. This paper is a study of the “Revista Jurídica – Doutrina – Jurisprudencia – Legislação”, published in Rio de Janeiro from 1916 until at least 1922, linked, through its directors, to the IAB (Brazilian Lawyers Institute). The question we raise is essentially: what was the impact of the first civil codification in Brazil on specialized legal media? To this end, the selected journal can provide us with some answers and raise further questions.
