Abstract

Ten cases of subsolar abscess in horses are reported. Six animals were kept in stalls, and four were raised free. The duration of clinical signs before the clinical examination ranged from one to four days, and lameness scores from 2 to 4. After the clinical diagnosis, phenylbutazone, procaine penicillin and sulfadoxin-trimetropim were administrated, and immersion of affected hoof in saturated solution of magnesium sulfate. The average time for clinical resolution was 6.3 days. After finishing the treatment, all animals were back to their normal athletic activities and any complication was observed. Keywords: Hoof, horse, lameness, subsolar abscess, compartmental syndrome.
