Abstract

The aim of this work is to evaluate the effect of increasing levels of roostertree hay in partial substitution of corn and soybean meal of the concentrate in complete diets, on performance and consumption of nutrients in confined lambs. Thirty-two non-castrated Morada Nova sheep were used, with estimated age about 5 months old and initial weight of 12.0 Kg. The experimental design used was the randomized blocks with four treatments and eight replications. The total and daily weight gain was similar up to 30% of substitution, decreasing (P>0.05) up to 45%. The consumption of dry matter (P<0.05) expressed by g/day was significant, not happening the same with the consumption expressed in % of body weight and g/KgPV0.75. Concentrate corn and soybean meal might be partially replaced by the fleur-de-silk hay up to 30% without compromising the performance and nutrients consumption by Morada Nova lambs for meat production.
