Abstract

The use of antibiotics as growth promoters began to be perceived as a risk factor for human health, mainly due to two challenges, the presence of residues of antibiotics in meat, eggs and milk and the induction of cross-resistance to pathogenic bacteria for humans. Thus, researchers have sought new alternatives that will replace the use of antibiotics. Essential oils become a viable alternative by reducing bacterial growth causing bacteria which produce toxins to use the energy to remain viable, leaving little or no energy for the production of toxins and providing a healthy environment in the gastrointestinal tract of the animal. Keywords: Bacteria, growth promoter, piglets
