Abstract

The present work aimed to determine the changes in complete blood count and electrophoretic separation of serum proteins assays in dogs seropositives to visceral leishmaniasis at Mossoró city, RN, Brazil. It was collected blood samples from 19 dogs with positive serology of visceral leishmaniasis for hemogram and proteinogram. The results revealed that hematological changes were remarkably inconstant at evaluated dogs, most ones presenting unregenerative anemia; another frequent finding was leucopenia. Furthermore, proteinogram from all studied dogs presented some disturbance; the most frequent were hyperproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, hyperglobulinemia, hypergammaglobulinemia, and reduction on albumin/globulins ratio. The electrophoretic profile revealed polyclonal gammopathy. Thus, it was concluded that hematologic and serum proteins electrophoretic profiles are valuable tools for help on diagnostic of canine visceral leishmaniasis.
