Abstract

In the metal-mechanic industry, management involving sustainability, productivity and quality is necessary, always considering that the final product must have an acceptable quality standard. Regarding to the machining process, cutting fluids are essential, as they perform some functions considered indispensable. In addition, Much importance must be given to the large amount of heat developed during cutting, which needs to be reduced. In this context, reducing the use of cutting fluids is considered a promising alternative. In this research, the machining of carbon steel ABNT 1045 will be carried out using carbide inserts as a tool, with the main objective of meeting a requirement for surface roughness and the basic standards for this type of operation. Therefore, an evaluation will be made in order to discuss which of the three lubrication methods is more suitable; dry, abundant fluid and MQF (Minimum Quantity of Fluid) and on how to adapt the use of cutting fluid to verify the influence of these application on the tool life and on superficial quality of workpiece, always considering that the cutting parameters used will be fixed for the three processes.

Key-words: Cutting fluids, MQF, machining, wear, roughness.
