Abstract

Hyperthermia may be employed in association with radio, chemo or immunotherapy like auxiliary forms and can improve traditional methods of treatment against cancer. Hyperthermochemotherapy consists of joint use of antineoplasics and hyperthermia. These association protocols allow higher cytotoxic effects of administered drugs and consequently best responses in cancer treatment. Despite their proved beneficial action reported in experimental studies, the use of hyperthermochemotherapy is not still employed in large scale in veterinary medicine and it may be due to a variety of unresolved questions regarding its utilization. Thus, this review aims to discuss technical advances already obtained, reasons, applications, complications, limitations and perspectives for utilization of hyperthermochemotherapy in treatment of soft tissue sarcomas and intraperitoneal tumors in dogs.
