This research has as its general objective the confrontation with racism in education, which is necessary and urgent. In this way, we build an anti-racist proposal based on Abdias Nascimento (1914-2011) for teaching art to be applied in the early years of elementary school and/or early childhood education. We seek to defend that this issue must be faced from the early years of schooling, in order to avoid and/or minimize racist violence suffered by black students since childhood, we emphasize that such a discussion should not be addressed only with students from more advanced school years. For this, we reflect on the life of Abdias do Nascimento, his productions inpainting, in the theater, his actions as an activist, his performance in the Federal Chamber and Senate, recognizing that all these activities were permeated by the anti-racist struggle . The theoretical framework of this paper is based on books authored by Abdias Nascimento himself (1976, 1986), catalogs of exhibitions about his artistic production – (MASP, 2022; MAC, 2019), in dialogue with anti-racist theories, among them, Cavalleiro (2001; 2003), Silva (2001), Djamila Ribeiro (2019), Katiúscia Ribeiro (2019), bell hooks (2013) and Almeida (2019). As a conclusion, this research formulated the illustrated book called Abdias goes to school to be used as a pedagogical resource in art classes and, through the illustrations presented, involve students in the early years of schooling in the anti-racist debate for the positive representation of a black Brazilian citizen, artist and who militated against racism throughout his life.
