This article examines lethal violence against women in Brazil in light of recent legislative changes, also considering the increase in femicide rates in recent years. Law No. 14.994/24, known as the anti-femicide package, amended several legal provisions of criminal law with the aim of toughening the treatment of violent crimes committed against women. The research was anchored in perspectives that consider sociocultural determinants, structural inequalities, and state invisibility as factors that contribute to the lethal victimization of women. For methodological purposes, we examined Brazilian legislative texts that directly addressed the crime of femicide in the last decade, as well as quantitative data collected by the Brazilian Public Security Forum (FBSP). Data analysis revealed the inadequacy of the law as the only means of addressing the problem and the need for public policies that transform the cultural norms that legitimize violence against women.
