Research about the teacher at any stage of teaching is a challenge, especially in the early years of elementary school in Brazil. This article discusses about polyvalent teacher. It is the result of a qualitative, bibliographical and explanatory research (regarding the objectives). Having as a initial question: What do the researches say about the polyvalent teacher in the early years of elementary school in Brazil? It aims to promote a reflection on the polyvalent teacher in the early years of elementary school. For the construction of the data was performed the selection of the material, works that discuss about teacher training and survey some research on the subject, in the time frame from 2011 to 2023. The survey was carried out in the database of the Journals of the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), for this were defined descriptors and search tools. As main conclusions we realize, as challenges, the need to rethink the initial training, bringing it closer to the reality of the preschool, as well as the work with the basic contents of the curricular components, in an interdisciplinary way and in consideration of digital multiliteracy, items considered as objects of mediation in the teaching practice. In addition, we contacted that it is essential to reflect on the concept and practice of polyvalence in the early years, as part of the constitution of the teacher’s identity. Key words: Challenges.
