The objective of this article is to understand the discursive constructions of the relationship between democracy and environment in scientific literature, through the denominations green, ecological, sustainable and environmental democracy. The research method used was an integrative review of published articles, available in full in the Web of Science - WoS (from Clarivate Analytics) and Scopus® (from Elsevier), published between 1944 and 2019, using the descriptors: environmental democracy, ecological democracy, green democracy and sustainable democracy. A total of 118 articles were found, of which 61 studies were selected and analyzed, most of them being theoretical studies. It was observed that research on green, ecological, sustainable, and environmental democracy can be seen as part of a larger constellation of research that connects environmental and democratic values, including theoretical and empirical work on participation, environmental justice, transparency, accountability, and legitimacy in environmental governance. Each of these denominations follows scientific discourses with theoretical-methodological paths that complement and explain each other.
